点评:Admiral's Arch is one of those must-see sites on Kangaroo Island that is a geological wonder. To get to it, you have to venture into Flinders Chase National Park, on one of the most southwestern points of the Island. Getting there is a true winding adventure through some of the most rugged wilderness reaches. Don't be surprised if you see way more animals that kangaroos. We saw plenty of short beaked echidnas waddling beside the road and into the undergrowth; a large gaggle of Cape Barren Geese with their deep, husky honking; wild turkeys; wallabies; heath goannas; Adelaide Rosellas (lots) and of course the loveable sealions.
On arrival at the parking lot, you are greeted by a stunning vista in almost every direction. The ocean swell heaves and rises and falls as the waves push against the cliff rocks or are twisted around a small island a few hundred metres away. A wooden broadwalk leads you down on a gentle incline at first, followed by a steeper metal walkway, which hugs the contours of the cliff and inclines steeper as you approach the Arch.
There are rest landings on the way down which are great viewing platforms too. Pay attention to the rocks: seals are possibly and probably hidden amongst them and the vegetation. For me, I found the breaking waves hypnotic and so powerful, amplified by the white swirls and foaming breaks. Even the deep colours or blues and greys are captivating.
Of course, the end of the journey is the "pièce de résistance", the main prize. The beautiful Admiral's Arch.
