点评:I love traditional Japanese architecture, and so the Uchiko Yokaichi Gokoku Preservation District was a highlight for me. I went as part of a self-guided day trip from Matsuyama to Ozu and Uchiko; taking the Yosan Line from Matsuyama Station (I also purchased the All-Shikoku JR Pass). The Preservation District is about an 18-min walk from Uchiko Station, and the old kabuki theatre Uchiko-za is along the way (also worth seeing the exterior, though the interior was closed when I went). The road is ~600m long and features preserved residences from the Edo and Meiji periods. Due to there being little to no traffic and no electrical wires overhead, its a very peaceful stroll, lined with charming shops, restaurants and tea houses. While there, I also visited the Kamihaga Residence and Japanese wax museum (there was an entrance fee to tour the inside); and also the Takahashi Residence (no admission charge). I also did the short but steep hike to Uenoyamaten Shrine, which has a great view over the town of Uchiko. Including the walk to and from Uchiko station, exploring both residences, and walking up to the shrine, I spent a very pleasant 2 1/2 hours exploring the area and taking photos.
