点评:Last month, my family and I traveled to the beautiful island of Suo-Oshima in Yamaguchi, Japan. Our guide, Tetsuo "Tony" Shinohara, personalized our quick two-day trip to maximize our time there. On the first day, we visited the local government office to apply for my grandfather's family registry. Tony advised us beforehand that not every search is successful. To our great surprise, the clerk was able to find our registry which led to visiting my grandfather's hometown of Kuka and the neighborhood that he grew up in. That evening, we stayed at the Chidori Ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, which included the most delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast all at a reasonable price. On the second day, we visited The Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii which has extensive records available for research. With Tony's expertise we were able to discover even more information about our family members who emigrated to Hawaii. Tony's local knowledge of Suo-Oshima and its scenic spots allowed us to fully enjoy our tour of the island. An added bonus from Tony was a special stop at the famous "must-see" Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni before we were dropped off at the Shin-Iwakuni train station. Tony's enthusiasm for ancestry research and desire to create a most memorable experience for us made our trip to beautiful Suo-Oshima exceptional!
