Crowded but still a field day for lovers of autumn foliage
常寂光寺的点评
点评：Despite the 20 minute walk from Nisonin Temple and having to climb an intimidating flight of steps up Mt. Okura, Jojakkoji remains the high point of my entire hoyo viewing trip. Jojakkoji is an example of thoughtful repurposing, from its distinctive thatched roof Niomon gate (oldest remaining structure moved onsite) and main hall (from the ill-fated Momoyama Castle in Kyoto!). Fall foliage lovers will have a field day with showy maple varieties scattered throughout the grounds. The huge gingko tree near the pagoda is a sight to behold, carpeting the moss below in neon yellow. There are a couple of steep pathways zigzagging up the mountain - just be careful with the wobbly bamboo railings. Crowds thin out towards the top: awesome views of the sprawling Kyoto suburbs and temple gardens below. Then walk down to the Hondo & sit on the balcony while admiring the view as you catch your breath. Don't miss the photo op from Niomon doorway (either side) on your way out - just wait for your turn and mind the photobombers. Entrance fee of JY 500. Better to take the Randen tram back to the city - less crowded than the city buses.
