点评:Great Wolf Lodge has always been about making trade offs.
It’s very well optimized to extract as much money as it can, from tiers of upselling to nickel and dime-ing at every corner. But in exchange, you get an indoor waterpark! The only place you can enjoy aquatic fun in the dreary days of the Pacific Northwest.
The park itself is dated, but periodic additions to storefronts and decor keep things mostly reasonable. Did I mention, but you get an indoor waterpark!
The trade off always was, we happily paid. And then overpaid on the adds on, the food, the parking, the kitschy experiences. And we got to enjoy the waterpark.
Unfortunately, there’s simultaneously a shortage in staff, and a drop in the quality of staff. My experience has been that great wolf lodge has gone from bored high schoolers to people who actively despise watching customers have fun.
This most recent trip, water slides were understaffed to the point lines built to 30 minutes per ride, with one individual running two slides back and forth. If this was fast, fine. But the reality was the green light was on most of the time waiting for staff while the lines built up.
But the most memorable experience was after a long 30 minute wait to the top, the staff ripped the height wrist band off our kid saying he wasn’t tall enough. The ruler was literally against the wall, but this staff member insisted looking down towering over our kid, which creates an angle effect that makes a kid look short. This staff member refused to bend down to look at the ruler straight on, claiming it doesn’t matter. We ended up having to leave the water park, getting our kid remeasured, to get his wrist band back. An hour lost total because of a power trip.
As a parent, I completely appreciate and understand the importance of safety. However, my concern isn’t one of safety. It’s one where power tripping staff with too much ego and not enough geometry can ruin your kids day. At that point, the trade off is no longer worth it.
