点评：From the striking dimpled silver apple at the drive in entrance one does not know what to expect. It is not until you enter through the glass doors of the main entrance that you find yourself enveloped in scarlet red. There are several tours or experiences on offer. A young man Leopaul at the ticket booth is very patient at explaining the differences between them; the time taken, what is involved and how much each one costs. We opted for 3 Calvados tasting option. Père Magloire operates under three brand names; Boulard being their world famous brand. Situated in Calvados Pays d’Auge it benefits from clay and limestone which endows complexity to the drink that calvados produced out of the Pays d’Auge area.
Further calvados from Pays d’Auge area is double distilled in an alembic copper still whereas in the rest of Calvados it is single distilled in a column still. Calvados from Pays d’Auge is therefore smoother and refined. Then aging in different casks adds another dimension.
We wanted to try Fraternité Hors d’Âge based on 7+ years old blend of several eaux-de-vie, a more complex Père Magloire X.O. which is made from calvados of over 9 years of ageing in century-old oak barrels. As such it was more complex and longer lasting in the mouth. Lastly we tasted Mémoire X.O. which is blended from calvados of at least 15 years of age. This was very complex made up of powerful notes of apple and honeyed fruits.
These three calvados represented just a small part of the range available.
