点评：We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better driver and guide than Viraj.
Even before we travelled to Sri Lanka, we were confident that we had made the right choice. He provided us with all his details in advance, including his driver and insurance information and details of the vehicle we would be travelling in. He also looked carefully at the itinerary I had put together and, where I had made mistakes with the routing, suggested much better alternatives. That level of professionalism before we had even met him was extremely reassuring.
From the moment we did meet him, he was extremely pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. His knowledge of Sri Lanka, its culture and the places we visited was exceptional, and he was always happy to explain things and answer our many questions.
His driving was another big positive. Sri Lankan roads and traffic can be quite an experience for visitors, but Viraj was a very steady and considerate driver and we felt completely confident and comfortable travelling with him. His vehicle was also clean and tidy at the beginning of every day, which was another small detail that showed the pride and professionalism he brought to his work.
What we particularly appreciated was how sympathetic he was to our needs. At no point did we ever feel rushed. Viraj was incredibly patient and ultra-flexible, adapting the trip around us rather than expecting us to fit around a rigid itinerary.
He also took the time to show us places that the “normal” tourist probably wouldn’t see, which gave us a much more authentic experience of Sri Lanka.
One thing we particularly appreciated was his honesty. Viraj explained what he jokingly called some of the tourist “traps” — for example, viewpoints accessed through shops where you might feel expected to buy something, even though there was actually no obligation to do so. He would also tell us honestly what was worth buying and what wasn't, including things that might look impressive because of attractive packaging but weren't necessarily worth the money. We never felt that he was encouraging us to spend for the sake of it.
He also introduced us to authentic local street food and recommended genuinely good restaurants. We never felt that we were being taken somewhere simply because a driver might receive a free meal or some other benefit for bringing tourists there. His recommendations felt as though they were made for us, not for himself.
That honesty, combined with his knowledge of Sri Lankan life and culture, made a huge difference to our three-day tour. We felt that we were seeing a side of the country that we simply wouldn't have experienced travelling on our own.
Viraj wasn't simply our driver. He became an important part of our experience of Sri Lanka, and we thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with him.
As I said to him on the day we left, I felt that **we met as customers but left as friends**.
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Viraj to anyone visiting Sri Lanka and would gladly travel with him again.
