点评：Llyn Coed y Dinas is an excellent bird reserve, suitable for both beginners and more experienced birdwatchers. The reserve lies just outside Welshpool and is managed by the Wildlife Trust. They describe it as a “Wildlife Service Station” — if only those for people were as pleasant.
From the small car park, it is a short and pleasant walk to the main bird hide, passing through open woodland where tits and other small birds are often seen. The hide itself overlooks the lake, and its large windows provide an immediate and comfortable view of the waterbirds. The variety changes with the season. In winter there are teal, tufted duck, and wigeon, while larger birds such as heron, greylag geese, and egrets are frequently present. With patience, one may also catch sight of the shy water rail.
The reserve is attractively situated, with fine views towards Long Mountain in Shropshire. It offers a peaceful and rewarding place to observe wildlife and to spend time in quiet study of the natural world.
There are no visitor facilities apart from parking and the hide itself. References to a café sometimes appear online, but these are a confusion with the nearby Coed y Dinas store — an entirely different enterprise, located in the former home farm of Powis Castle.
A visit here combines well with a walk along the Montgomery Canal or a tour of Powis Castle, both only a short distance away.
