ENJOYING THE SHADY PARK ON A WARM JULY DAY
Goodwin Park的点评
点评：Whenever I visit Goodwin Park, I always pause to admire the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. On this visit, I spent quite a bit of time taking in all the many details of the impressive monument.
When I got around to the fourth side where the Kearsarge panel was, the young man on the park bench near me invited me to have some his popcorn. I declined but sat and talked to him for awhile. He had a musical instrument in a case with him. He was headed to a music college in the fall to study jazz. He planned to have a professional music career in jazz. He was going up to Portland to a recording studio as a session musician on someone else’s album. The drummer for the session was from a famous 1970’s disco and funk band. I told him about my music training and my cousin Ted’s studies at another music college in Boston and his band’s success. He was an interesting young fellow.
While we conversed, we enjoyed the surroundings of the park and the shade of the many trees on a very warm July day.
Goodwin Park is a great place for enjoying the outdoors in a quiet setting in the three seasons of better weather.
In addition, the park has a historic background. It was named for Ichabod Goodwin, a retired sea captain who was elected Governor of New Hampshire and was in office during the beginning months of the American Civil War. His federal-style mansion was across the street on the land where Atherton's Furniture was for many years. The Goodwin Mansion was moved to Strawbery Banke Museum where it sits facing Hancock Street adjacent to the entrance to the museum parking lot.
I maintain my 4.25 rating of Goodwin Park and recommend a visit.
