点评:My rating is strictly for the "Lincoln" part of the park and its visitor center/gift shop. The golf course looked well-maintained and had a lot of guests that appeared to be having a great time. The actual "Lincoln" part? That's where the quote in the title comes in. It was a disappointment. I'd hate someone from out of state to come for it. The Mordecai Lincoln House is the only remaining structure in Kentucky that was owned and lived in by a member of the extended Lincoln family per the signage. It's nice from a distance. Its signage is informative. Up close it seems that the parks department is leaving it to the elements. Window sills and siding are rotting. It's a shame. Signs inside the structure (we had to read from the outside) indicate there was an expensive effort to repair it years ago. I understand the upkeep these structures take from personal experience. But if you're going to have it as a destination in your state, keep it up. Safety and vandalism concerns and a lack of personnel make it impossible to leave the home open. There is room to have it staged with period furniture on the bottom floors for those peeking inside. It would make a difference if the park would do so. At the "homestead," weeds and grass were high, what appeared to have been nicely laid out stone sidewalks were covered by overgrowth, and signage there was in poor shape. It's definitely not an accessible site in this condition. An original cabin where Nancy Hanks is said to have lived was relocated there from some distance away. Other structures are replicas. Signs said to buy tickets to enter the structures. We went to the visitor's center to buy tickets and get a map and left with neither. Training in customer service is critical and should be done here. The person working was engaged in conversation with someone when we walked in. Ten minutes later, it continued without pause. The gift shop is drab, dark, and has little on the shelves. I tried to buy something - anything - to support it. I stood at the service desk and the conversation continued. Eventually, I said, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to get a map, maybe something to explain what we're seeing here, a ticket, and this." "Sorry. Our machines are down." "The park map? Something to describe all this?" "I don't think we have any." There wasn't even an effort to say, "But I know about it. Let me explain everything here! It's so worth walking around and looking in!" It may be the worst we've seen at Kentucky's typically sensational state parks (we visit them and their gift shops). Kentucky knows how to do state park experiences much better. We love the parks. But unless you're a fanatic about seeing Abraham Lincoln's extended family's moved/replicated dwellings, take a pass. It's not far from the main road, but even then isn't worth the time. Just enjoy the golf course.
