Centrepiece of the Luxembourg Gardens

点评：The large, octagonal lake in front of the Luxembourg Palace is the centrepiece of the Luxembourg Gardens.
With the Marie Medici’s grand palace as a backdrop, this is probably the most photographed spot in the park.
We spent some time, here, just enjoying the sun and strolling around the water’s edge. The surrounding flower beds are a colourful mass of red, purple and pink, stone lions stand guard on the surrounding walls and Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting, stands in the centre of the green lawn with her bow and arrow ready and a prancing deer by her side.
A series of twenty classical, marble statues known as ‘The 20 Queens of France’ stand on raised balustraded terraces either side of the lake and a small fountain in the middle of the lake sends up a jet of water (although it’s disproportionately small).
There is plenty of seating with the park’s iconic, green chairs scattered randomly around.
At certain times, you can hire colourful little toy boats to sail on the lake which would make the whole scene even prettier but there weren’t any when we were there mid-week in September.
From here, don’t miss the Medici Fountain which is around to the right of the palace.
