Chateau de Rochemaure的点评
点评：The keep of Rochemaure castle is erected by the Adhemar family from 1120 onward. Its curtain wall and lord's manor are dated thirteenth century. The stronghold is abandoned by 1630 and left to decay.
Rochemaure castle is very ruinous : The entrance section has not yet been excavated and is damaged beyond recognition. Only wall fragments remain of the lord's manor. The keep is a hollow shell. No towers or walls can be scaled.
I nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed my visit and that is entirely due to Jeanne. Although I was the only client and rain was pouring she was willing to take me on a one hour guided tour of the town fortifications and the castle.
Sheltered by my umbrella she explained the origins and geographical situation of Rochemaure, summarised the history of the fortress and told me what the interior of the keep looked like and how it was defended. She proved very friendly, knowledgeable and open to questions and allowed me time to take pictures afterwards.
Needless to say : The guided tour is a must for any visitor to Rochemaure !
