点评:BLES is unique in that it's a truly ethical sanctuary. The welfare and happiness of the elephants are the core of everything they do. They are not chained or made to do anything to entertain us guests. So no feeding or washing like many sanctuaries. These are all stressful encounters for them. Instead we spent an amazing week following them around the forest and learning about them from a distance. At times they walked right up to us and checked us out which was equally amazing and terrifying. The mahouts all have a complete bond with their elephants and it was incredible to see how they chatted away to their elephant, getting them to move around us when needed. The housekeepers provided the most delicious vegan/vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm a meat eater but I didn't miss it at all and was blown away by the quality of the food. If you love elephants you should visit. If you can't visit then please consider supporting in any way by either donating or adopting one of the herd. Katherine Connor and her dedicated team do an amazing job running BLES purely on donations. I know that this won't be the last trip I make to BLES.
