Do your best to get out to Skellig Michael....it's not easy but absolutely worth it. More than worth it!

点评：If there was a category above excellent, I would have chosen that. If there is one thing you do if you're in Kerry, possibly the whole of Ireland, do try and get to Skellig Michael and land there. The only way to do it is on a small boat and having done it twice now, it can get a bit rough, but those doing the trip are very safety conscious and really know what they are doing. They only do the trip when the conditions allow. The most recent time I went it was on the boat Force Awakens, which leaves from Ballinskelligs, the only one to do so. Michael and Brendon are a fantastic double act. They are real experts and it's hugely impressive how they land at the rock, as it is not easy conditions.
When you get to the rock, you are in for a treat. Climbing the staircase chiseled into the rocks by monks in the 8th century is an extraordinary experience in itself. It is steep and quite challenging but magnificent. When you get to the top, there are the remains of an extraordinary monastery which you can wander around and there are guides to explain to you the history and the significance of the place.
I found going to Skellig St Michael a very moving experience and will definitely go a third time when I am next in Kerry. And once you're back on dry land, where better to go than the Bridge Bar in Portmagee for a pint and some live traditional music to appreciate.
