Classical music in Poland's most exciting concert hall
Filharmonia im. Mieczysława Karłowicza w Szczecinie的点评
点评:We attended a performance of the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra featuring the talented young Polish pianist Aleksandra Swigut under the baton of the much-in-demand guest Greek Conductor, Zoi Tsokanou.
Ms Swigut performed Chopin's idyllic 2nd Piano Concerto with verve and empathy, befitting an artist who has garnered several awards for her Chopin interpretations. Ms Tsokanou kept the orchestra perfectly attuned to the soloist.
The second half of the evening was devoted to Ravel's ballet music Dafnis I Chloe and the poetic Ma Mere l'Oye which the orchestra rendered in dulcet tones.
The new Szczecin concert hall itself, designed by a Catalan architect,is a symphony in white, both externally and internally. The snail-like stairway resembles none other than the iconic one at the Guggenheim in N.Y.C.
All in all, an evening's performance at the Filharmonia is one well-spent in this vibrant port city.
