Lovely and beautiful zoo, budgie enclosure needs to be staffed

点评：I love this zoo. I’ve been visiting this zoo since I was a child, when it opened in the 80’s. I raised my children bringing them to this zoo and now my kids are grown and I still like to visit when I’m in the area. It’s beautiful and clean. Feeding the giraffes is an amazing experience. When you first enter, we found that the ducks and geese didn’t want any of the duck food. They only wanted the lettuce meant for the giraffes. My main complaint is the enclosure where you can feed the budgies. There was no staff supervision and we witnessed birds getting accidentally stepped on and almost ran over by strollers. We also witnessed a little boy deliberately trying to step on the birds and we had to ask him to stop as his parents were not watching him. There was no one controlling the flow of traffic or capacity. I have never been to an aquarium or zoo where they have an enclosed animal exhibit feeding area that is unsupervised. I live right next door to the Mystic Aquarium in CT and in the summer our budgie exhibit is staffed and supervised to ensure the birds safety. I was shocked that this was allowed. On our exit we did ask if it’s meant to be supervised and we were told by a staff member that that enclosure is not staffed but they have someone check every few hours on it. If I returned , I would probably not go back into that enclosure. It was completely overcrowded with guests and strollers and very dangerous for the budgies. Other than this one dark spot, it’s a beautiful zoo and we also really enjoyed the train ride.
