点评:On our way back from a day trip from Sapporo to the Shakotan Peninsula, we stopped at this characteristic sake brewery.
It is located in a former warehouse, qualified as a historical building, quite central in Otaru. It offers free tours of the various stages of the production chain. The visit ends at the attached shop, wich also allows tasting of the sake produced here.
The route is rewarding, and the captions allow you to delve deeper into the sake brewing process.
The management emphasizes on the one hand the quality – due to the quite wild and uncontaminated condition of the nearby area – of the water used in the processing; on the other hand that, given the cool to cold climate of Otaru, here the manufacturing of this national Japanese drink takes place exceptionally throughout the year.
Very different varieties of sake are available for purchase at the shop. We purchased two bottles of different types, which we then consumed upon our return home, finding them very appreciable.
