Cruachan Power Station Visitor Center的点评
点评：It's easy to dismiss this place as you whizz by on the A85 on your way to or from places such as Oban or Tyndrum. Currently part of the Dam attractions are closed for refurbishment in the Hollow Mountain turbine halls, so you cannot visit them, You can still hike up to the actual Dam itself from here (a 45 minute trek up a steep path). However, this place is a perfect spot to break a journey. Situated alongside the stunning Loch Awe shoreline, with free parking, including EV charging points and a shaded picnic area with some childrens play space, this is a hidden gem.
The Visitor Centre has an interesting display explaining the workings of the Dam, Hollow mountain and generation of electricity, with interactive areas for children to discover more. There's also a play room for children too. The restaurant offers a range of lunch and snack options, plenty of refreshments and cakes. I opted for a cheese toastie and salad, which with a cold drink cost a reasonable £8. There are picnic benches outside where you can sit with dogs. There are well-cared-for toilets. Of course, the place wouldn't be complete without a gift shop, but it went beyond selling the ubiquitous tartan tat and stocked some quality products. There were some pocket money items too.
Perhaps when the Hollow Mountain tours resume the place will get busier. Until then enjoy this spot with all its facilities and don't zoom past.
