Giants Ridge Recreation Area的点评
点评：Getting back on skis for the first time in 30+ years I have really caught the bug. I splurged and purchased my own skis but thought they arrived too late in the season. Thankfully the weather held out and I was able to sneak up to Biwabik.
It was a 3.5 hour drive and I thought I was crazy to do a solo day trip. Well, it all paid off when I stepped out of the car for the first time. What a beautiful place. The staff was friendly as they printed my RFID card and sent me on my way. The main lift is fast and put me at the top in no time.
I decided that I would ski every run at least once. I start in the middle of the hill and ran down Melbourne, then Snowbird and Sunshine. Next was Sajajevo (probably my favorite) before I headed to skiers left and raun Rocky Top/Solitude/Deer Valley. There was quite a bit of overnight freeze but decided that I'd do the 4 blacks since they are very short. Even these old bones could handle the few short turns to get to the bottom. The run back to the Rocky Top chair isn't great but not bad.
Next was skiers right and I really enjoyed the blues there. If I had been a little more adventurous I'd have run the Terrain park on the far skiers right a few times. It was completely empty and there were some really nice rollers.
Having skied just in the TC and then at Winter Park this year I was afraid here was nothing in between. Well, Giants Ridge provided that wrong. Runs aren't Rocky Mountainesque but they are fairly long and the quantity of blue runs with the pitch are quite nice.
I'll definitely be back.
