点评:Never been so confused at a state park before. We told the young woman working in the entrance that we were there for the first time trying to find trails and she was really unhelpful. And then the signs were even less helpful. All the trail junctions are marked with a map - the same map, with no indication of where on that map you are. To make matters worse, there are two main 5 - 6.5 mile trails that run through the park. Those trails show on the map, but their names are not on there, although there are separate trail markers with their names on the trails. We were wandering around lost - I knew what trails I wanted to go to (Mounds Trail and Quarry Trail) but I never actually found them. We needed to actually leave where we parked and drive outside the park where there are two other entrances to access the areas we were interested in. And it wasn't just us - we ran into another couple in two different areas of the park, equally confused.
All that said, Blue Mounds has a lot to offer, including a bison herd that we were able to view pretty up close. They have tall grass prairie, so the herd lives on its natural environment. There are quartzite cliffs and an old quarry, I was able to go up to the cliffs and hike by them, then go up onto the ridge itself but I had to backtrack to get down, couldn't find another way.
Even if they had someone go out with a sharpie and mark "you are here" on the trail maps, it would be a huge help. Coordinating the names of the trails on the map and the names on the trail markers would be another big improvement. And having someone working there who is engaged and helpful would have been a plus. In the brochure it says "if you only have an hour, hike the Quarry Trail". Never found it, on the map or on the ground, although I hiked right around it on other trails.
