点评:While visiting our son in MD, we were looking for something to do one day and decided to check out Harper's Ferry. It's interesting that the town is actually located in the national park. We parked at the visitor center and then there's a shuttle to take you to the town itself. Or you can walk if you're so inclined. Speaking of walking, wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Even with taking the shuttle to and from the Visitor Center, there is a lot of walking involved and that area is very hilly. The folks working at the visitor center are very helpful and can suggest different hikes depending on your fitness level, how long you want to spend doing it and/or if there are particular things you want to see.
We hiked to Jefferson Rock and then all the way to the north side of the town to eat at a place my wife chose. It doesn't look like it's very far but, as I said, are significant elevation changes in that area and it was tiring. Most of the stuff to see is on the south end of the town down by the rivers (Shenandoah and Potomac junction) and the location where the ferry was. There are lots of shops, restaurants, little museums and such in the south end of the town.
As we left at the end of the day, we drove over to Bolivar Heights where one of the battles took place. There's lots of hiking trails over there as well but by that time, we were hiked out and ready to go home. It's a beautiful, scenic park with lots to see and enjoy and a historic location from our nation's history.
