点评：One of our Palermo highlights was a walk through this fascinating market that sells all sorts of items like fish, vegetables, meats, nuts, fruits of all kinds and much more. What is even more interesting is observing the people that sell these items. There were a number of vendors that would actually sing and shout out.
If you are lucky, this is a good time to use your video to capture the sights and sounds of the real Palermo. There is no question that your senses will experience an overload of smells, sights and sounds from almost anywhere in the Ballaro Market. If you are hungry, there are a number of places to eat too. Experiencing street food is extremely popular in the Ballaro Market.
This is the oldest market in Palermo. Today, it is a multi-ethnic gathering of all types of nationalities. The most recent “Palermitani’s” being from Africa.
On Sundays the Ballaro Market is closed. Although, the open-air market is known to be open selling all type of items like furniture, pots, antiques and even sofas.
Rick Steves, the American Travel writer, does warn to be on guard for your personal belongings. You are walking with people in front and behind you at all times.
Close by is the Four Corners, known as Quattro Canti. We found this area to be highly interesting and even had a few lunches by the café’s close by. We also enjoyed going by bus to the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia and on another day, Monreale, to view the 12th Century Norman Church. If you have time, we also enjoyed going to the Orto Botanical Gardens.
