Powerful, Moving and Heavy
Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach的点评
点评:I visited the memorial with friends while our wives shopped on Lincoln Road. I did not really know what to expect but I knew my wife would have more fun shopping with her friends with me not there. I wanted to see this as an interesting attraction to Miami Beach. This was so much more than I expected as it conveys so much in a way only art can.
From afar, set against the backdrop of the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens, the memorial is aesthetically pleasing and even strangely beautiful. However, if you take the time to really visit and go inside the inner island, it is powerful, moving and heavy. Rarely does art make you feel like your sense of touch; however, descending down the corridor to emerge in a ring of distorted figures trying to escape, it physically weighed on me. You then see the names by the thousands, and you are struck by the despair that is poignantly displayed on the face of figures. I was struck with empathy for the victims and the overriding sense of "Why". After a few minutes I had to leave the inner ring, it was that moving and powerful. When properly executed, art can say so much more than words and that is what this memorial does.
