Old West Christmas Light Fest at Enchanted Springs Ranch的点评
点评：On Saturday, December 17th, 2023 we went to the Old West Christmas Light Fest at Enchanted Springs Ranch as we have been doing for the last several years. This year we were very disappointed for several reasons. First, the price increased to $30.00 per person and the amenities decreased. They used to have vendors there, someone to take a picture of you and your kids while sitting on Santa’s lap.
This year we had to ask the family standing in line behind us to take our photograph. When I asked Santa what happened to the elf that used to take pictures for us, Santa said she was "out cleaning tables." There were fewer Christmas lights as you entered- not as in past years. How does a business increase its prices and decrease their amenities? We usually come out every year, but this year we felt we were paying more for less.
The worst of all was the petting zoo (a new addition, but you must pay extra for that). I understand people need to make a living and this is probably how they make theirs. However, if they’re going to have these animals out in 40° weather (with the wind, it feels colder), they should have some type of covering and heater for them. I mentioned it to one of the owners and she said that these are outdoor animals anyway. I stated yes but at least outdoors in the wild, they can find shelter somewhere. Here, they were out in the open with no covering, no trees, grass, etc. They were just exposed to the cold and wind.
With the possible exception of the pigs, the poor animals looked miserable. They were shivering with cold, they seemed lethargic and their eyes were half closed. Some were trying to huddle together for warmth- but were unable to because they would scatter as people kept coming to pet them. The sight of the turkey broke my heart, as he was perched up on a cold metal fence and had nowhere to go for warmth.
My daughter paid to go in to pet the animals with my grandchildren, and she immediately regretted the decision once she saw how those poor animals were shivering, with their eyes saddened. You could tell these animals were miserable. The only animals that night that seemed somewhat indifferent to the cold were the pigs, but they appeared to be hungry, as one of them kept pushing the fence trying to forage for food somewhere outside the fence line. I don't know if this is legally considered animal abuse. but it certainly seemed cruel to those of us watching. I understand that the petting zoo is a nice feature to have and that's great but the owners should take better care of their animals, especially in cold weather. Just watching this was an unpleasant experience, and we will not be returning nor will be recommending this venue in the future.
