点评:We visited Mt. Rushmore during the (damn) government shut down in late Sept/early Oct 2025. Because of the shut down, the Visitor’s Center was closed; the informational movie about the sculptor and the history of the carving was unavailable; there were no park rangers working, etc, etc. This was tremendously disappointing, as I know we missed so much of the total experience.
Disappointment aside, we were grateful to still be able to see the carving itself, flanked by the avenue of state flags. The carving is beautiful, with photo opportunities from various angles.
As you are driving away, be sure to notice the sign making you aware that the “Profile View” is coming up. It is worth pulling off to see George Washington’s profile on the mountain, and to read the informative sign beside the parking area.
Mt. Rushmore is such an iconic slice of Americana. Don’t miss it if you are anywhere nearby. There is no cost other than parking, which is $10 per car, but that $10 gets you in and out of the grounds as many times as you want to go for one full calendar year from date of purchase.
