点评：At the western edge of the Plaza Balcon De Europa practically blocking off access to the square is an imposing white structure. This is the Iglesia El Salvador Nerja.
This church and the Parish of El Salvador is the main one for the town of Nerja. Construction of the church began in 1505 and was completed in 1697 with the bell tower added later in 1724. Since then, numerous additions and restorations have been carried out the latest in 1997.
The design is academic or neo classical baroque in style. The tower has a square base, and the bell tower itself is orthogonal shape characteristic of the parish. Nearby the church is a massive eight metre high araucaria or cerote tree from South America planted in 1850.
Inside the church is divided into three separate naves separated by semi circular arches and the aisles are topped by groin vaults and barrel arches.
The Church hosts several important festivals throughout the year including Easter, the Pilgrimage to the Hermitage of San Isidro May 1ST, the feast of San Juan in Burriana June 24th, Virgen del Carmen July 16th, Rosary of the Aurora and Mass of the Virgin of Sorrows September 15-16th and the day of the patron saints of Nerga from October 8-12th.
Mass is held in the winter (October to May) Tuesday to Saturday at 7:00pm , and Sundays at 10:30am 12:00pm and 7:00pm and in the summer Mass is held in the winter (June to August) Tuesday to Saturday at 8:00pm, and Sundays at 10:30am 12:00pm and 8:00pm. Office hours are 10:00am to 11:30am Thursday and Friday and Sunday from 5:30 to 6:30pm in the winter and 10:00am to 11:30am Thursday and Friday and Sunday from 5:30 to 7:00pm in the summer. To ensure entry it is best to call ahead as the doors may be closed outside of these times.
The whole area the church and plaza is pedestrian only but there are two pay parking lots nearby and it is only a ten minute walk from the ASLA bus stop.
