Yes, you still walk a bit to visit the highlights of the island and yes, the majority of paths are accessible to the mobility challenged. Gravel and wood plank walkways and a lift on the bus for motorized or manual transportation aides.
We had the pleasure of being Rich’s first tour guests. Rich, a lifelong local loves this area of Michigan and is a passionate supporter of Grand Island. His fervor for the little piece of paradise is infectious. He’ll give a bit of history and launch into his own exploits over the years on the island. History buffs take note- there’s a lot to cover on the tour. Enjoy forest watching? Sit back and let Rich escort you around the island. You never know what wildlife you may see but flora abound.
You are on an island surrounded by Lake Superior. Expect fantastic views and the majesty of Michigan at its finest. Expect the scourge of northern Michigan, too. That’s right black flies, mosquitoes, and no see- ums. Dress appropriately and use bug spray.
From the super helpful and friendly folk in the camp store.,(who double as the ferry captain and 1st mate), to Rich, the bus guide this excursion is well worth the time and expense.
