点评：As I was in town to visit Williamsburg College, a stop in Colonial Williamsburg was a must. The Welcoming center for Colonial Williamsburg has a great staff. They will give you an overview of places you can visit. Anyone who knows about Colonial Williamsburg has probably seen the picture of the Governor's Palace. You will need a ticket to enter the Palace. I can't recommend a tour enough. After the tour, you will have a sense of the culture during that time. (Ballroom, Entry room, bedrooms, etc) Although the Governor's Palace is a reproduction, I loved it the same. The tour guide was informative and was willing to answer questions. He is the one who taught us that the new building was built off of Jefferson's drawings from his time. They were essential to the new building since they included room dimensions, ceiling heights and window placements. Taking the tour will help you understand why the building is one of the finest residences in British America at the time. Right when you enter, the palace wants to show you its power with an imposing display of arms in the entry room. Throughout the building you will see elegant furnishings, paintings, and ornaments. The History buff in my enjoyed hearing that the first 2 governors of the Commonwealth of Virginia were Patrick Henry (Governor during the Revolution) and Thomas Jefferson.
Before the building burnt down in 1781, it was used as a hospital for american forces in the Revolution.
The tour will recommend you to see the grounds and the outbuildings. I enjoyed seeing the colonial kitchen. They had actors giving a food demonstration. Seeing a stuffed Pig's heart is a vision that will stay will me.
Walking the grounds helps you notice the striking architecture of the building.
