点评:John D. Rockefeller financed the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg. He and his wife, Abby, took a personal interest in the restoration. They purchased Bassett Hall so they could live close by and came here every spring and autumn. The house was built ca. 1760. It was closed for the pandemic and for renovation and just recently re-opened after five years. The woman who gave the guided tour remembered me from last year when she was my tour guide at the Robert Carter House. It was an excellent tour. Mrs. Rockefeller's parlor has a lot of folk art on display, whereas Mr. Rockefeller's parlor was more formal. Upstairs, you can see the Rockefellers' bedroom as well as the guest bedroom. The dining room table had pictures and drawings of Williamsburg at the time of the restoration. In 2026, Williamsburg will celebrate a double anniversary--the 100th anniversary of the restoration and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
