点评:Went with my mom, whose fondness for the Girl Scouts dates back to her own childhood, when she was a Scout herself.
The house is well maintained, and the self-guided tour is straightforward and easy to follow. By scanning a QR code, visitors can move from room to room while listening to short audio segments about Juliette’s life. Volunteers and employees were stationed throughout in case guests had any questions or wanted more details. Overall, it was a lovely experience that took about an hour. It was short and sweet, and we both learned a lot.
For instance, I appreciated that the museum tastefully acknowledged that, while Juliette made great strides for women, she was ultimately a product of her time. It was only after her lifetime that the Girl Scouts expanded their inclusion efforts to welcome members of color.
The only drawback, in my view, was the gift shop. I appreciated that they featured products from local artists and artisans, but there were very few Girl Scout–related items. They did have a copy of the original handbook, as well as some pins and cutesy jewelry. Still, I would have loved to see some cookies!
