点评:We wanted an easy hike to do with young children and the Spotted Salamander trail ended up fitting the bill. The trail wasn’t hard to find on Google, but what was hard to find was the nature center. The address on their website is for the main entrance, but it turns out the nature center is on Shrewsbury. The park website should make this more apparent. Also, while the Spotted Salamander trail was nice, there was a fallen tree across part of it (which looked to have been there for some time) which is certainly an issue for a paved ADA trail. Also, the trail is a loop trail (again, contrary to what was on their website) and was much shorter than I anticipated. Again, none of these things are major issues, but if you’re trying to plan some time for young kids to hike, they do make a bit of a difference. On the plus side, major props to the park for having the interpretive signs include braille, and also for having the playground at the trail be wheelchair accessible. While we didn’t need these features, it’s always nice to seeing places being inclusive. Overall, I would certainly recommend the park as a nice little getaway from downtown Charleston for part of the day with young kids, but just know their website isn’t necessarily the most accurate, so be flexible with your planning.
