Well worth the drive
Bolton Castle的点评
点评：As you approach the castle it's breathtaking as it sits in a commanding position at the end of a short road.
There is a payable carpark but at 09.30am there was plenty of space on the approach road.
Entrance fee is £15.00 per adult which includes a falconry display but sadly on our visit we took our seats along with another dozen or so people and waited patiently ... time passed ... then in the distance a window opened and someone shouted and waved , we couldn't hear but guess it was to say the display was off as a further 10 mins later still nothing happened so we all walked off slightly disgruntled...
Anyhow , to the castle itself , it is part restored and part ruin ( although the ruins are substantial ) .
The preserved parts contain some superb rooms inc Mary Queen of Scotts bedroom.
There is plenty of signage throughout the castle which does bring the castle to life.
I won't say anymore as it is best you visit and experience this marvelous castle yourself.
One final comment, there is also a lovely cafe... the bakewell tart is unreal .. yum yum.
A few hours well spent.
