点评:What an amazing place!!! We went to The Crazy Horse Monument and Museum not knowing quite what to expect, since we knew that the carving isn’t yet completed. We’re so glad we included this stop on our trip.
We started with the 20 minute informational movie at the Welcome Center. It is a very informative production and set the stage for the rest of our visit.
We then went outside on the veranda and watched the Bell Family - an incredibly talented Native American family who shared their culture with the group through music and dance. It was EXCELLENT. (The mother is a two-time world champion Native American hoop dancer, and she is INCREDIBLE .)
After the program, we rode the bus down to see the carving underway of Crazy Horse . The bus driver was super knowledgeable and shared tons of interesting tidbits during the drive and the stop for photos.
NOTE - Guests cannot walk or drive cars to the carving, as it is an active construction site. The bus ride (total 25 minute round trip, including the stop,) costs an additional $5 per person, but it is worth twice that to see the carving up close and learn all about it.
We spent only a little time in the museum that is filled with numerous Native American artifacts and artwork. Honestly, you could spend a whole day in the museum alone, but we just didn’t have the time.
We ended our visit by touring the sculptor’s workshop and choosing a free piece of rock from the base of the carving. There are also several other gorgeous sculptures by the same artist on the grounds.
