Short visit, pleasant Ranger
Abraham Lincoln Boyhood Home at Knob Creek的点评
点评:This park is divided into two units. One unit is the birthplace of Lincoln and the second is the boyhood home of Lincoln. It is in the Eastern Time Zone. Unit 2 has separate hours and is about 7 miles from the first. You can pick up junior ranger books at both sites. Based on our experience detailed in our review of Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace, if you are doing junior ranger booklets, pick up a booklet from Unit 1 work on it based on the information at the site, then head over to unit 2 to complete a couple of answers on one of the pages and get the badge there. Note, the second site is currently not open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The site has some very some displays inside and outside a cabin marks the spot where the Lincoln’s cabin was believed to have been located. You can walk to Knob Creek and see the field where the Lincoln’s grew crops. We had a picnic lunch at a table near the visitor center.
We were greeted by the ranger {Jeff, I believe was his name} on the front porch. He was kind and gracious. He sat with us talking about the site and local history and other places in the area we could visit that were rich in history. I have added those to our list for our next time visiting the area.
I’ve learned a few things from the trip to this site. It is a myth that the Lincolns were poor and his father was rather shiftless. In fact, Lincoln’s father was actually an affluent man in the area. He was able to have livestock, purchase his own land (several times due to land disputes that he had no control over) and he was not only a farmer, but also a cabinet maker/carpenter.
This is a short visit with no fee.
