Good Base for exploring the Red Woods and Samuel Boardman Corridor
Harris Beach State Park的点评
点评：Harris Beach State Park is a beautiful and convenient place to camp on the southern Oregon coast. The biggest highlight is the easy access to an incredibly scenic beach. We have visited Cannon Beach and Astoria several times, and Harris Beach is every bit as breathtaking, with dramatic rock formations and expansive ocean views.
The campground is large and offers a nice variety of accommodations, including sites with water and electric hookups, basic tent sites, and several yurts. There is also a decent playground that our children, ages 8 and 11, enjoyed. Several trails lead directly from the campground to the beach, or you can drive to a lower parking area for easier access. There’s also a trail ~2 miles/40 min walk that takes you into the heart of town.
We preferred taking the trails down to the beach, which wound through pretty wildflowers and around large rock formations.
A few things to be aware of when booking: some sites appear fairly short once you factor in both a trailer/camper and a tow vehicle, so double-check the maximum site length.
I would also recommend booking as close to the ocean side of the campground as possible. We stayed in Loop F and could clearly hear highway traffic and semi-truck brakes throughout our stay.
The restroom stalls were clean and the shower water was warm, but the shower floors were consistently dirty. Water puddled easily, leaving you standing in murky water, which was unpleasant.
Brookings itself feels a little tired, but the campground is ideally located for a three- to five-day stay. It makes a great home base for exploring the redwoods to the south and the Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor to the north. The beach alone makes the stay worthwhile.
For families, if the marine layer is especially thick or chilly at the campground, consider visiting the fantastic playground at Azalea Park, just a few minutes away. Traveling slightly inland often brings you into sunshine and warmer weather.
We also appreciated being close to Cosmic Grind for drive-through coffee, Whimsical Griffin for comics and a few free arcade games, Hip Nautical Gifts for souvenirs near the harbor, and Fred Meyer for groceries and camping essentials.
Firewood is available to buy at the campground during a specific time period. Check with the camp hosts.
