海豚宠物池－神秘海豚海洋馆的点评
点评：Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary is our main reason for visiting Coffs Harbour. We have booked online, a date and time that was available and suited us, for a private session ‘Meet the Dolphin’ experience for $125.49 pp (Daily Sanctuary ticket pass not included). This will include a 5-minute orientation followed by a 10-minute interaction – plus photos. Having viewed the program online, I didn’t want to miss out what is on offer to the public and worked out that the activities scheduled would finish at approximately 1.30pm, so we scheduled our dolphin experience for 2pm. Once you have booked online, you will receive a confirmation email plus a ‘waiver form’ for you to complete and hand it in on the day, when you arrive at the entrance. It’s just a form asking whether you will or won’t consent for staff to use your photos for promotion purpose on their website. We arrived there in plenty of time to find our way around the place, the staff where you pay your entry ticket pass, will hand you a brochure with a program inside it and if you paid an additional session, you will receive a wrist band to identify that you have paid. It’s not a large marine sanctuary, but the talks are timed perfectly, so you can get from A to B, quite easily and plenty of time for you to get there before the next activity starts. You have the freedom to follow the program (which I highly recommend) or go through the exhibits at your own pace and how often you like to revisit them. If you choose to do your own thing at the sanctuary, may I suggest to make yourself available for these two sessions ‘Training Talk’ – where they demonstrate the techniques used to train the animals and the importance. You will see dolphins - Bella, Zippy and Jet performing tricks, play and do spectacular stunts. You will also have the opportunity to pat the dolphin. The dolphin would lay on its back and swim around the pool, allowing guests to approach the pool, with their hands out and ready, to pat their belly as they swim past. They alternate between dolphins and seals on a daily basis and we were lucky that it was the dolphins turn. The other session ‘Dolphin Dreamtime’ is also a must. You will listen to a pre-recorded Dreamtime Story and see dolphins perform and a special guest, a seal and random selected children have the opportunity to interact with the dolphins as well – the smiles on their faces are priceless! There are many other opportunities to get close to the sea animals throughout the program – during their talks etc and not limited to dolphins and seals, there are cutest little blue penguins, turtles, feed the fish, ray and sharks during their talk session or simply view through their aquarium. If you plan your day out properly, it’s value for money plus more, especially if you make it a full day’s family fun. Money spent at this sanctuary (including at their ’Peckish Penguin Café’ and gift store) goes towards the rescue and rehabilitation of the animals and of course their well deserving staff. You too can be part of restoring the wildlife by going there, spend your money at their café and gift store and sharing your experience with family and friends, in the hopes, they too will visit this sanctuary.
When it was closer to 2pm, we waited in the ‘Front Garden’ where there are outdoors table / chairs, until a staffer comes to collect you. We had the most magical time EVER! We were up close and personal with Jet, the dolphin and patted him to our heart’s content. Plenty of photo shoots (most are repeats but you will have at least ten good photos to treasure) with Jet, singular and family shots. We each had the opportunity to feed Jet a fish. Then our knowledgeable Trainer asked us what do we prefer to do with Jet? Play fetch the ball or hand commands? We had chosen hand commands – the best experience, seeing Jet respond to individual hand commands. The 15 minutes with Jet felt like 5 seconds though, we truly had a blast and highly recommend to at least book a private session – memories that will last forever and we are still talking about our experience with friends and family and showing off our photos. We were advised that we will receive an email later that day with a link to redeem our digital photos, which we did. The costs of the photos are pricey – one photo is $15 but packages worked out cheaper. We had a total of 47 photos and we paid $85 for a package of 50 photos. But we didn’t mind the added expense, knowing that it goes towards a good cause.
The staff / trainers do an amazing job, educating their guests the importance of conservation, rescue and rehabilitation of the sea animals – where most are returned to the wild after the completion of their rehabilitation. Opened seven days a week, sanctuary opens from 9am to 3pm and is stroller / wheelchair accessible. Highly recommend and suitable for solos, couple, family or group of friends.
