Home of Charles Darwin - Down House的点评
点评：Nice day out visiting Down, but it’s such a shame there is so little about Alfred Russel Wallace, who also theorised evolution by natural selection. The few mentions of Mr Wallace in Darwin’s house misspell his name. So neglectful.
The house is filthy, dusty and smells. We visited on a Saturday. The windows were covered over, even in rooms with no exhibits to protect. The carpets clearly had not been hoovered or cleaned for a significant time.
Whoever is in charge here had lost grip entirely, it seemed to us. So much wasted potential.
Finally, the cafe was an embarrassment to EH. They advertise a ‘Cornish Pasty’ - great. Except that they served up a horrible cheese pasty instead, saying, “oh sorry, we don’t have any of those, want a sausage roll instead”. Understaffed, bordering on rude, and chaotic. Did I mention overpriced?
Definitely bring your own.
