The highlight is undoubtedly canoeing through the bald cypress swamp, gliding among towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. The scenery is magical, with beautiful reflections on the water and a wonderfully serene atmosphere that feels otherworldly.
There are also woodland hiking trails, opportunities for birdwatching and wildlife spotting, nature photography, picnic areas, and historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures. It's a wonderful place to slow down and appreciate nature.
The park is relatively small, making it easy to explore without feeling overwhelmed. Even better, if you visit after Labor Day on a weekday, you might find yourself with the entire park practically to yourself! The peace and solitude make the experience even more special.
Marshal is where you can go for a restaurant meal or get supplies and gear, and historic Jefferson is nearby and worth a visit.
