点评:We stayed here for Columbus Day weekend. We were supposed to be camping at Kickapoo, but my son really wanted to go fishing, so we changed our reservations to Lake Brownwood.
BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED!
We’ve never been here before and didn’t know what to expect. We’re tent campers and we were given site 62 in the Comanche section. We came in from Houston on Friday night around midnight. If you’re an overnight camper they will email you a gate code so you can get after hours.
They have beautiful cabins and screened shelters if you’re not tent people. Book at least three or four months in advance. (That goes for almost all the state parks).
Bathrooms are clean and the park is pet friendly, just keep the leashes on. Water and electrical tent sites available. RV sites as well and they do have loaner fishing poles if you want to have a go at it.
Now that the basic info is out of the way-
Pitched the tent, went to bed, woke up to spectacular view of the lake. The first cold front of the year had just rolled in and the weather was perfect. We enjoyed a day of fishing and then relaxed by the campfire that evening.
The next day took a turn. My husband’s pickup wouldn’t start at the fishing pier. We had just spent 6 hours fishing and something was wrong with the fuel pump.
Let me tell you what- the park rangers were AMAZING! Two of them sat with my husband trying to figure out what was wrong. They ended up taking me, my son and our two dogs back to the camp while we tried to figure out a plan.
The next morning, Rebecca (the park general manager) came by our site. The word accommodating doesn’t seem like a good enough word. The entire park treated us like family. We ended up having to stay an extra night because we had to get the truck towed into Brownwood. Rebecca took us to the front office, helped us get situated and told us whatever we needed, let her know. The wrecker service was awesome. The mechanic was awesome. The park is awesome. The rangers are fabulous and yes, we had a lovely time camping.
We took advantage of the extra day and my son and I took one of the hikes and sat at a secret spot the rangers shared with us. It was extraordinary. We went swimming in the lake and relaxed by the fire. Stargazing, great tent sites, and relaxing scenery make this place wonderful, even if your fuel pump doesn’t go out.
Rebecca checked on us every morning to make sure we were doing ok. Talk about above and beyond!
This park has become one of our favorites, and we are trying to visit every single state park in Texas, so have already visited many to compare.
Thank you doesn’t seem like enough- but Rebecca and to all the rangers and staff- THANK YOU!!!
10 out of 10. This place is a hidden gem. Truly.
