点评:After reading about the Penn Center, I decided that it was a must see for our party of three. On December 27th we made our way across the bridge from Beaufort to find this treasure - the school for freed slaves. Kevin greeted us at the center and got us acquainted with what we needed to see and in what order. He did such a fine job of welcoming us and getting us situated to watch a movie about how the center came to be. We then moved throughout the center and were so moved with photographs, the art exhibit and all that the center had to offer.
It is worth a trip to visit the center to learn more about the history of the south.
We then went on to find where Pat Conroy is buried. Once back in Beaufort at the Pat Conroy Visitor Center we discovered that his gravestone is at the St. Helena Memorial Gardens on Ernest Road. The gravestone is on the right toward the front.
