点评:The Osprey Cabin (Lake Metigoshe State Park) can provide and amazing experience to those who enjoy a more isolated and primitive experience - but not always. Based on my extensive experience staying at the Osprey Osprey, I can say confidently that it has always suffered from a fly problem (bugs with wings). This problem is normally a moderate nuisance and with some considered "swatting" you can drive the population down to tolerable levels. This, however, was not the case for my outing when we stayed there in November. The problem lies in the fact that when the outdoor temps begin to drop as the colder Fall temperatures move in, the flies move toward the warmest location which is the Osprey Cabin where they attempt to enter. Unfortunately, in my opinion after observing the situation, they enter the cabin through the ventilated metal soffit over the front deck and then work their way inward toward the warmer conditions. Then, once the temperature drops again at night, they go into hibernation - yes, hibernation. Most folks just think they die when the temps drop. If you arrive on a cold Fall afternoon and start up the wood burning stove they become active again and begin to take over the indoor environment - sometimes by the tens but in our November case by the hundreds to thousands. Another problem is that the flies that move into the cabin seek refuge under the upper bunk mattresses because it's warmer up high and more insulative under the thick protection. They are also up in the ceiling beam area. As soon as you warm up the cabin they emerge in force. We killed and removed at least 200 flies from under both upper mattresses so we ended up taking them out of the cabin into the cold and then sanitizing them with Clorox wipes. Just imagine sleeping on those upper mattresses and not knowing about the insects beneath them. To survive we let our wood-burning stove fire go out and slept in the cold. The cold temperatures put the critters back into hibernative mode so we were good through the nightime. As the cabin warmed up the following day, though, the problem became even worse until we were faced with a situation that reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The only cure was to hike back out, go into town, buy two cans of interior safe Raid and another can of Clorox wipes, then hike back in again and spray the interior of the cabin down several times. We moved all our belongings outside before spraying and then sat outside for hours. That's the frustration. We paid to stay in the cabin yet were forced to sit outside most of the day. When we finally left, we stopped by the Park Office and described our horror story to the Park Attendant on duty - a very kind and understanding lady who took notes, listened carefully and asked us to send photos, which we did. We did humbly ask for the consideration of a refund and she said she would forward our information and request to the proper people. 3 weeks later we received a denial. So here's the thing . . . The Osprey Cabin can be a great place to stay but one must come prepared. I personally would bring a fly swatter, a can of raid or two, and then maybe avoid the Fall season altogether - especially if your spouse or children are wanting to come along. They may not be comfortable with the possibility of unhealthy and intolerable conditions. During most seasons the flies are manageable but the Fall can be the exception - you need to be aware of this in advance. Whenever you come, be sure to bring an entire canister of wet wipes or similar and wipe down the mattresses, table, benches, etc. thoroughly. And BE SURE to check under the upper mattresses before sleeping on them. You may want to spray indoor-safe bug spray throughout the cabin and then just walk away for a while before entering. You'll have to be the judge. I'm not suggesting that you avoid the cabin. I have stayed there tons of times and still intend on staying there again - though in the future I will be better prepared. It’s certainly a tough decision if you have traveled a long distance to stay there and with the 4:00pm check-in time, the sun will have set by the time the cabin warms and the flies emerge. And, if you do decide to leave early because of the intolerable conditions, there are likely no refunds, and the office will be closed, anyway, by the time you exit the park. You will thus risk losing both nights of your rental fee. The cabin has a lot to offer but, as I said, you must be prepared - especially in the Fall.
翻译:Osprey Cabin(Lake Metigoshe State Park)可以为那些喜欢更偏僻、更原始体验的人提供令人惊叹的体验 - 但并非总是如此。
