点评：Dinosaur Ridge is a small museum and a one mile paved path along an ancient stream bed with fossils from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The museum, which is $4, and its volunteers, provide helpful background. The path is free to walk and well-signed, but I found the $8 audio guide helpful. There is an on-off bus that costs significantly more.
There are only a few bones visible in situ on the path. But the highlight of Dinosaur Ridge is the dinosaur tracks. These include a huge slab where dozens of dinosaurs walked and an area where you can see the “bulge” created when a sauropod stepped on the ground. The path goes geologically from the Cretaceous to the Jurassic and then you walk back, 2 miles round trip.
One thing to note is that lighting conditions make a big difference. I was very disappointed in the footprints walking out as I could barely see any of them, but when I was walking back, the sun had gone down and cast shadows and it was similar to a black light: the tracks just popped out and I realized the sun had washed them out on my way out. In the right conditions, these footprints are just amazing as you envision the world in which these huge animals were crossing this mud in large numbers.
