点评：This smallish house is of particular interest to those with an interest in the British ancestry of Americans. In fact, that is its USP, and the reason for its continued existence and maintenance. Built as a Tudor manor house, it still is interesting as an example of that period of building, and has examples of the furnishings and artefacts of that time. Guides are only too willing to give short talks about various aspects of its history. The original owner, Lawrence Washington, built it from 1539 onwards. He was an ancestor of General George Washington, whose great-grandfather had emigrated to Virginia in 1656. It is administered by the Sulgrave Manor Trust, which runs educational events and supports friendship between the UK and the USA, with regular events. To this end, there is an exhibition building devoted to George Washington containing some memorabilia associated with him, such as his velvet frock coat. The house is surrounded by well-kept gardens.
