点评：There's a lot of outdated information out there about this place, so here's the way it is as of 2026.
Once upon a time you could walk at your leisure like it says in many blogs. You could spend half the day there if you wanted to. You could climb the structures. You could swim in the pools.
All that is history now. After COVID, they decided to make it only through a one-hour guided tour. If you want the tour in English, there are only two of those per day -10AM and 3PM. No climbing on the structures. No swimming in the pools. They say it's because people left graffitti and didn't respect the structures. But what does swimming in the pools have to do with all that?
I sort of get it if the structures are fragile, but it still stinks regardless. Oh, and the well-regarded cafe is also shut down now.
The one upside is that you get to hear the backstory of Edward James the man. But I'll have to say, the more I hear, the less there is to like. Our guide grew up in the garden -his father was James's driver and his mother was his cook. So he tried to portray James in a positive light. But basically he was a mining boss with more inherited wealth than he knew what to do with. So he built a fantasy garden -exclusively for himself and no one else. At least he treated the indigenous workers well.
If you're in Huasteca anyway, it's worth the 1.5 hour drive. But I wouldn't come all the way from DF or Queretaro just for this. I'm glad I went, but I wish I'd done this before COVID changed things.
