Disappointing Return Trip After Years of Reliable Ferry Service

点评：Our trip to the island was fine. However, our trip back was not. My family has been going to the island every year for over 10 years. I am very familiar with how the ferry should operate. In the past, we had taken the Star Ferry, now Arnold, and always had a seamless experience. But not this time. The posted ferry departure was 9:30 am. When we got to the dock, she said it was running late and would be 9:45. I have never experienced a late ferry before. The ferry that arrived was a freight ferry, with temporary bench seats added in the lower deck. The benches were not bolted down. It was 50 degrees and raining. The lower deck was not fully enclosed. There was also no heat. Needless to say, we sat as far away from the openings as we could. It was cold, damp and extremely loud. The ride also took 40 minutes as opposed to the 30 minute ride in the past. When we arrived at the Mackinac City dock, the ramp was not aligned propperly and tilted when you walked on it. A lady on our boat used a walker and dock staff had to stand on opposite ends of the ramp to steady it so she could safely cross. However, it still tilted. We had to remind the staff to remove our bikes and luggage. There was also no one there to bring our luggage to the car area, like had always been done in the past with Star. We asked if someone was going to bring our luggage. The employees looks surprised, like we were supposed to bring our bikes and our luggage ourselfes. An employee said "I guess I can help with that", so she brought our luggage to the tents. Needless to say this was the worst ferry experience I have ever had. Very disappointing.
