点评:We wanted to visit Sunbury as it the only historic plantation house in Barbados where all the rooms are open to the public (albeit restored after a fire, with the contents being sourced from other houses from the same era). When we arrived at opening time, we were asked to wait for 15-minutes for a tour. Whilst not on the scale and grandeur of an English stately home, almost every inch of every room is crammed with artefacts - period furniture, paintings, sculptures, china, ornaments, toys, clothes, as well as eclectic collectibles (cameras and dental related pieces). The basement houses kitchen equipment, antique horse-drawn carriages, and farm equipment. Our guide was personable, and knowledgeable in answering any questions. The tour was interesting and insightful. The focus is on the daily life of a colonial plantation owner’s family, without any trace or mention of the slave workers. The tour lasted 40 minutes, not the advertised 1 hour, possibly rushed due to the rest of the group - a family with young children who kept splitting up and wandering off. We finished with a complimentary rum punch in the covered courtyard bar-restaurant. Nice clean toilets. The house isn’t really suited to large groups or children.
