Portugal N2 with Bike Alive

点评：As part of a larger group with friends, my wife and I did the 7 day N2 Portugal tour in October 2024. The route starts in Chaves in northern Portugal and finishes in Faro on the Atlantic coast, a distance of around 740kms. This was the fourth cycle trip I've done with Bike Alive. As with all the previous trips this one was exceptionally well organised with great communication from Donna both prior to and during the tour. The hotels were really comfortable and the meals at night were excellent with lovely wine included. Bicycles were always undercover in locked accommodation.
As usual Donna and Derek looked after everyone on the road with their usual quiet skill and experience. They have the knack of being in the right place at the right time with food / water and plenty of encouragement. They well know what cyclists require and this included the lunch stops where food was ready on our arrival. Particularly important on this trip because we had unusually adverse weather with a lot of rain and cool temperatures so there was no standing around in wet cycle gear waiting for food to arrive. On one wet day, hot soup and cheese toasties were particularly welcome – thank you guys!
Despite the adverse weather this was a lovely route. For the first three to four days, the route is reasonably hilly on quiet roads and passes through wonderfully picturesque rural areas. Then the next two days are a change of scenery on more open, flatter countryside before the final day of a fun descent to Faro. Highlights included the Douro Valley and the beautiful town of Evora.
All in all, another great trip with Bike Alive that I would thoroughly recommend.
