点评:We love botanic(al) gardens, and so this was #1 on our list when visiting St. Croix. We'd heard some mixed reviews, but we were delighted by our experience. We took a taxi from Frederiksted, and we paid $60 (tip included) round-trip with the driver waiting for us for ~2 hours. The gardens themselves are extensive (~16 acres) and well maintained. You get a map for a self-guided tour, and there is a fair bit of information on the back. Many of the notable specimens are labeled with signs, although you're best off carrying a guidebook or using a plant app if you really want to learn about each species (signs mostly just have common names). The gardens are located in the ruins of a sugar plantation, and this makes it really unique--blending natual history and human history. We got the sense the overall operation is on an upswing with improvements. Notably, an 18th century blacksmith shop was being restored to working order, and we spent probably 20 minutes there learning about the shop, its history and the renovation work. The human/cultural history museum on site is very small, but there is some good signage (much of which would benefit from a refresh). We spent about two hours wandering the grounds, and it was time well spent!
