Stunning "loch" well dam!
Loch Cluanie的点评
点评：The first picturesque views we had of Loch Cluanie was from the road as we came over the mountains from Fort William. Turning west on A87 towards Skye you see the Cluanie Dam, the loch is actually a manmade reservoir, constructed in the late 1950's as part of the North of Scotland's Hydro-Electric Board's Glenmoriston project to generate hydroelectricity.
As you travel along the A87 you'll get some splendid views of both the loch and highlands surrounding rising to over 1000m situated at the end of Glen Shiel, it was one of the most scenic lochs we passed on our tour through Scotland.
There are a number of view points along the way and a couple of small car park which allow you to walk down to the loch shore. On our visit the dam level was quite low, but an enjoyable stroll nonetheless.
Also keep and eye out for the ruin of Cluanie Castle. Legend has it that it was the summer palace and hunting lodge of the first King of the Scots. The ruins sit upon a natural wooded knoll on the shores of Loch Cluanie.
