点评：I am a winery guide for the vineyards and wineries of Greece. It is a retirement fun gig that I am grateful to enjoy so much in retirement. I researched wineries in the Corinth area for our group of 20 for a tour in April 2024. The group I will lead will travel from Athens to Nafplio. Giannikos is only minutes off the main highway. Although hidden in citrus groves, Google Map does the job of taking you right to his gate. On the day, the gate to the winery was closed. His farmer neighbor recommended me to call. On the phone we were able to arrange for a visit a few days later during our return car trip back to Athens. My goal was to check it out so as to be ready for the 20 guests to come next April. Michael Giannikos is the ultimate gentleman. He received my wife and I warmly. We tasted several of his very fine wines. They are modern, sophisticated and of the highest in quality. There are over a dozen varietal bottlings of both indigenous Greek and international varieties, all expressive, perfectly balanced wines of purity and precision. This may be a small winery but it is definitely the real deal. Michael’s interest in history and mythology is definitely an extra for those interested in more than just what’s in the bottle. The cultural backdrop of wine is what makes this more than just a great beverage. Wine is about a the people, the place, the culture of the region and in this case a family also. We are working on arranging more contacts through our agent in Greece to work on the details of our visit in April. We are coming back for sure. They have both cellar space for tastings and also a great outdoor space under a giant maple tree for an outdoor event. Michael said his wife will provide something to eat. After a brief tasting and wonderful exchange of stories, we felt we had known each other for years. Michael didn’t charge us and offered a gift of wine. I was unable to accept due to no more luggage space. We agreed that he would hang on to my wine gift until April (a Roditis) and I will bring Michael his favorite American candy, Hershey Kisses, which aren’t available in Greece. Thanks, Michael. We will see you soon. I know my guests will be thrilled at Giannikos. By the way, we loved your two German Shepherds. Such gentle dogs. I highly recommend a visit when in the Corinth region. If not, make a special arrangement to be there. It will be worth your time. Sam Wai
